So last night the cobalt blew up. Not so much Ferrari style but she went out with a bang and left me stranded on the side of the highway. The oil light came on so I pulled over to a gas station to add a few quarts cause she tends to burn oil. Well after I filled her up I was on my way and she seemed much better. Until about 4 miles later when the oil light came on and shortly after there was a bang and a puff of smoke. I pulled over and she dumped the contents of her engine all over the shoulder of the interstate

This comes not even a week after we dropped 1300 dollars getting our trucks suspension sorted due to a bearing that had gone bad. And about a month ago I had a run in with a tire gator that sent me skidding into the wall of the highway. Combined with appliances at the house always breaking down I feel like the world keeps trying to kick me in the crotch. It sucks. I don’t know what I’m going to do for transportation or how to get the cobalt fixed. We still have 2 years worth of payments on her so we can’t really just write it off and find something new. I’m a mess guys and girls and I don’t like it

Used engine STAT.* Since you have payments, this is probably the best way to continue.

Can you do it yourself, or you do have a trusted mechanic you use?

*Depending on what the diagnosis it. From all that oil, it sounds like something broke through the crankcase/block/sump. Maybe you’ll be lucky, and it can be repaired.

Because I’m a moron and don’t take care of my shit. It’s my own damn fault it blew up and I realize that but it just sucks everything is happening all at once

Sucks man, sounds like me with life in general - can’t catch a break in the job search in my case though and still stuck living at home at 30...

That being said, you SHOULD be able to get a used engine for it cheap...are you able to do a swap yourself?

Used motor may be the way to go. The 2.2 ecotecs run 5 to 700 dollars used. I can’t do it myself but I do have a buddy who may be able to

Let us know what the diagnosis is, and what the hell made that hole in the bottom of your engine.

Sucks man, hope you get it sorted out soon.

Check for a used engine at a u-pic-a-part scrap yard. At our local one, any 4 banger is $165 plus a $65 core charge. Hopefully you can find one from a car that died from an accident and not mileage/abuse.
